Joannizza Pet Nat 2020
Mateo Furlani is the Yoda of the Italian pet-nat scene. His latest is made using the rare Joannita grape. Wild, delicious, and unabashedly unique. It tastes like grapefruit soda steeped in chamomile tea and preserved lemons.
We love it with… 🧀🐟🥡
Type: Sparkling, Pet Nat
Grape: 100% Joannita, a very rare grape variety that was bred in 1968 by Johannes Zimmerman at the wine-growing institute in Freiburg, Germany. It is a cross between Riesling, Seyve-Villard, Rulander and Gutedel that has proven to be fungus and disease resistant in cold, wet climates such as the high Alps. It can be found rarely, in tiny pockets of Switzerland and Germany.
Region: Trento, Alto Adige, Italy
Vinification: Practicing organic and some biodynamic preparations. Matteo Furlani planted this small 1-hectare parcel of Joannita 4 years ago -- this is the first harvest and subsequent wine made from it. One week of skin maceration during primary fermentation. Refermented in bottle with conserved grape must. No additions, including no sulfur added.
