Monkey Jacket Red Blend 2018
The flagship wine of Cruse Wine Co. is the red blend Monkey Jacket (the name inspired by an old, British sailor song). This wine embodies all the things Cruse Wine Co. is meant to be and provides incredible drinkability with brightness and ample structure. Raspberry tart, sweet summer flowers, bramble, and the slightest hint of grilled meat and cherry pie. Bright, crunchy acidity, refreshing finish with just a bit of simple tannins. If a red wine can be thirst quenching then this is it.

Grape: 51% Valdiguié, the remainder coming from Carignan, Syrah, and red field blend
Region: Vineyards in Mendocino, Napa, Sonoma, and Suisun counties, Northern Coast, California
Vinification: A mixture of three vineyards: Over half of the blend is Valdiguié (Napa Gamay) from an old vine, dry and organically farmed vineyard in Calistoga. Around a third is a field blend of heritage varieties grown organically at the Eaglepoint Ranch high above Ukiah in Mendocino county. The remainder of the blend is Tannat from the famed Alder Springs vineyard in Mendocino. Fruit was destemmed into an open concrete tank. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with manual punchdowns. After 7 days on skins, the wine was lightly pressed and moved to older French oak barrels and a few puncheons. Malolactic occurred naturally with the wine receiving a light sulfur addition immediately before bottling. Like all of our wines, it was bottled without fining or filtration.
