The Pope's Smoke 2020
From the producer: A delicate and low alcohol vintage. A fresh nose of strawberry, cranberry, rose, wet river stone, and sweet baguette crust. Comparable to Nebbiolo-based wines in the sense that you can’t let the light color deceive you. A firm tannin brings structure to this perfumed wine.
Vineyard Notes: Certified CCOF organic. The vineyard is located on the east side of the Northern California Coastal Range. The soils are pinkish gravelly alluvial soils permitting good drainage. This is a classic warm California climate; Grenache thrives here. They utilize some unique canopy work to protect the fruit from overexposure. They maintain a polyculture with fruit trees, olives and bees on site.
