Cyrille Vuillod comes from the Hautes-Alpes, and, before making wine, worked in the mountains as a ski instructor. La Baleine Ivre (translated means, the drunken whale) is an intriguing and slightly different take on Gamay. It's serious, reminding us of a strong Negroni-- herbal, rootsy, rustic, orange zesty-- yet somehow entirely juicy and quaffable. Perhaps this whale was onto something...
